Olga's Farm Revolution

Impact: 48% yield increase
Metric: 12 families fed daily

Olga Limonya started with a struggling a four-acre plot where nothing seemed to grow. The soil was hard, depleted from years of chemical fertilizer use. Her family barely had enough to eat, let alone sell at her market.

After attending our 3-day vermiculture training, everything changed. Grace used our vermiliquid fertiliser and drought resilient maize seed from Royal Seeds - RS MAIZE 5101. Within three months, she realised a harvest of 71 bags, up from 48 bags in prior seasons.

The transformation was immediate. Her maize grew faster with double cobs. Pests decreased. Water retention improved. Her harvest improved by 48% in the first year.

Today, Olga is an organic farming champion in Usiri village and plans to double her acreage from 4 to 10acres.

"I used to think farming was about fighting the soil. Now I know it's about feeding it. Kibmist taught me that."

Homa Bay Organic Farmers Cooperative Society (HOFCS) Success

Impact: Anticipated 45 permanent jobs to be created
Metric: 5000 litres of vermifertiliser/month

Through GIZ we managed to get interested millers who want 1M+ bags per year, which we could not deliver. This led to the formation of farmers cooperative society.

The cooperative has set up 15 aggregation centers, which is set to offer 30 permanent jobs to our youths. An additional 15 jobs is anticipated for staff working at the operations and managements departments of the cooperative.

Beyond the business success, the cooperative has become a model for youth engagement in agriculture. They've hosted visits from 12 other women and youth affiliations.

"We used to look for jobs in the city. Now we're creating jobs in our own community. This is the future of agriculture."

Family's Empowerment Through Agriculture

Impact: 85 households trained and empowered
Metric: 30% income increase

The Magunga Family's Group began with 25 members who wanted to improve their family nutrition and income. Most had small kitchen gardens but lacked the knowledge and resources to make them productive.

Through our integrated program combining vermiculture, nutrition education, and business skills, these women transformed their approach to farming.

They established a shared vermiculture facility, created individual kitchen gardens focused on nutritious crops, and formed a Jopith cooperative to market their produce.

The impact extends beyond economics. This group has become a leader in their community, training others.

"Before, I asked my husband for money to buy vegetables. Now, I sell vegetables and contribute to school fees. That's power."

School Nutrition Garden Success

Impact: 400 students benefiting
Metric: 40% organic school meals

Wandiji Primary School struggled to provide nutritious meals for their 400 students. Most children came from families facing food insecurity.

Kibmist partnered with the school to establish a 4K club where its members grow vegetables using hydroponics and vermiculture techniques

The club now produces diverse vegetables year-round, providing daily lunch to its members, and excess produce is sold to fund other school needs.

Academic performance has improved, attendance is up, and the club has become an outdoor classroom where students learn agriculture, nutrition, and environmental stewardship.

"The children don't just eat better—they understand where food comes from and how to grow it sustainably. We're planting seeds for the future."
